dnaG is an essential gene as evidenced by the analysis of conditional lethal and amber mutations (Carl, 1970; Marinus, 1970; Weschler, 1971; Gross, 1972; Nakamura, 1984; Murakami, 1985; Katayama, 1989). The dnaG mutants in the Keio collection have been shown to harbor an intact copy of dnaG in addition to the deletion allele (Yamamoto, 2009). The tsaD-rpsUdnaGrpoD divergent operon promoter region binds ArcA and rpsU-dnaG-rpoD operon expression is activated by ArcA (Federowicz, 2014).
