NadB activity is required for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) biosynthesis in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions (Messner, 2002). In anaerobic conditions, NadB uses fumarate as the electron acceptor, producing iminosuccinate and succinate; in aerobic conditions, NadB uses oxygen as the electron acceptor because the concentration of the preferred substrate fumarate is low, producing iminosuccinate and hydrogen peroxide (Tedeschi, 1996; Korshunov, 2010).
