BasS is the cognate sensor protein of the BasSR two-component system. Constitutive allele basR53 (pmrA53) confers polymyxin B resistance and deoxycholate hypersensitivity. EvgAS regulon. BasSR confers resistance to Fe(III)-mediated killing. The BasSR regulon has been primarily characterized in Salmonella; unlike E. coli, Salmonella also activates PmrAB(BasSR) in low Mg(2+), mediated by PhoPQ and the PmrD protein.
