YeaG can phosphorylate a 65 kDa endogenous protein, but this protein has not been identified; yeaG mutants display a post-exponential growth defect (Tagourti et al., Ann. Microbiol. 61:499, 2011). Purified YeaG can autophosphorylate and can phosphorylate casein (Tagourti, 2008). YeaG is related to the B. subtilis serine protein kinase PrkA, COG2766 family. 26/477 peptide masses from MS analysis confirm this start codon and indicate that the initial Met is not removed (Maillet, 2007). YeaG is in the RpoS regulon and is salt and acid inducible (Weber, 2005).
