Curator or user-submitted Comments:
thiBPQ operon expression is controlled by a thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) responsive riboswitch in the 128 nt 5' UTR. This THI element 5' UTR has been reported in intergenic sRNA searches as sroA/tpe79; the experimentally determined RNA start for sroA is used for the start of the BPQ mRNA. No new gene "sroA" is annotated in this regions since new sRNA genes must make stand-alone transscripts to be annotatd in EcoGene as sRNA genes. The thiB riboswitch is the target for the antibiotic pyrithiamine. The corrected U00096.2 sequence revises the sequence of the 18 aa ThiB signal peptide, previous thought to be 14 aa.
