Curator or user-submitted Comments:
abgAB expression is required for catabolism to feed p-aminobenzoate auxotrophs (Hussein, 1998; Carter, 2007). AbgAB (PGH) catalyzes the hydrolysis of p-aminobenzoyl-glutamate to p-aminobenzoate (Carter, 2007; Green, 2010). The abg operon is silent and an AbgR inducer has not been found (Hussein, 1998; Carter, 2007). AbgB is a member of the M20 peptidase family. abgA and abgB are paralogs. AbgABT does not degrade dipeptides; the physiological role of abgABT should be clarified when the inducer for AbgR is elucidated (Green, 2010).
