Oxidized Proteins

Description:

58 E. coli K-12 proteins were identified as being oxidized to carbonyl derivatives during nitrogen, carbon, or phosphate starvation. Cells of E. coli K-12 strain CSH7 were starved for 24 or 48 hrs and then oxidized proteins with carbonyl groups were identified in crude extracts using Western blotting and mass spectrometry.

Details:

Noda et al. list 9 proteins oxidized during phosphate starvation in their Table 3.

Four identifications in Table 3 use non-K-12 E. coli SwissProt accession numbers. However, they are virtually identical in sequence to their K-12 alleles, so the identifications are probably correct. The correct SwissProt accession numbers are listed below for these 4 proteins. Also, a secondary accession number (Q59346) was used instead of the K-12 sequence primary accession number for the mdh-encoded malate dehydrogenase (P61889).

non K-12/K-12 SwissProt accession numbers: P0A9P1/P0A9P0; P0A6M9/P0A6M8; P0A6Q0/P0A6P9; P0A7A0/P0A799.
