Transcription Termination

Rho-dependent termination

Rho-dependent transcription termination is responsible for mutational polarity; translation normally masks many intragenic Rho-dependent terminators on mRNAs and when translation is blocked these exposed sites terminate polycistronic mRNA transcription and dramatically reduce the expression of downstream genes in an operon. More accurately referred to as factor-dependent termination, Rho-dependent termination is actually dependent upon at least three factors: Rho, NusA and NusG; HN-S and Cnu(YdgT) are also involved in factor-dependent transcription termination (Saxena, 2011).
