Proteomics and SubProteomes

The periplasmic proteome consists of soluble periplasmic proteins, as well as the soluble domains of membrane-anchored proteins. Most periplasmic proteins have cleaveable type I or type II signal peptides utilized for their transport via the Sec or Tat (not unfolded during transport) translocon machineries. Additionally, some proteins without signal peptides can be exported by being non-covalently associated with Tat-exported substrate proteins.

Several sources were utilized to determine gene assignments to this topic, separated into sub-topics with more detailed explanations. This topic is a non-redundant compilation from all the sub-topics, whose overlaps can be visualized and sorted using the Venn diagrma EcoTool.
