Long 5' UTRs

gadE transcription is regulated from three promoters: P1 at -124, P2 with two closely-spaced starts at -324 and -317 and P3, at -566, and thus has 3 overlapping 5' UTRs, all transcribed from a 750 bp region termed the Sensory Integration Region (Sayed, 2009). -324 is used as a singular genomic coordinate to represent the P2 transcription start point.

The ArrS sRNA is encoded on the complementary strand of the gadE 5' UTR and is GadE-regulated; ArrS is complementary to the P3-initiated gadE mRNA from -380 to -312 (Aiso, 2011). ArrS overlaps the gadE P2 promoter.
